About Matt Hicks Money
Matt Hicks Money is about one simple idea: making every pay go further. It's written for Australians who are tired of big bills knocking their budget over, whether you're paid weekly, fortnightly or on an irregular income.
Hi, I'm Matt
I'm Matt Hicks. I'm 25, I work as a software developer, and I live in Melbourne with my wife and our young daughter. Like most families, we're juggling a mortgage, a car, the bills that land every quarter and all the costs that come with a little one.
Because I spend my days writing code, I'm always looking for ways to make money simpler with a bit of tech, from spreadsheets to AI. When I'm not at a screen, I'm usually out for a run.
I'm not a financial adviser. I'm a regular bloke who got interested in personal finance and started putting it into practice. I keep my sinking funds in offset accounts so they chip away at our home loan interest while they wait, and I automate a monthly investment into ETFs so it happens without me having to think about it.
It hasn't all been smooth sailing. A $1,950 car service once caught me out, even though I knew it was coming, because I hadn't put anything aside for it. Bills like that are exactly why I started using sinking funds.
Why I started Matt Hicks Money
I started Matt Hicks Money to help everyday Australians get better with their money. There's plenty of finance content out there, but a lot of it is American, full of jargon, or trying to sell you something. I wanted a place with plain-English guides built around Aussie bills, Aussie banks and the way we actually get paid.
